Songwriter's Toolbox Session

  • 04/23/2016
  • 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM
  • 1988 Kirby Rd, McLean, VA 22101

Songwriter’s Toolbox: 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Surge, located at 1988 Kirby Rd., McLean, VA, 22101.

This month's Toolbox is hosted by Matt Holsen, assisted by SAW board member Jay Keating (someone has to pass around the handouts).

Matt Holsen is a local composer, musician, producer of considerable talent who is able to speak cogently to many if not every style of music. His articulate grasp of structure, movement and completion elements in composition make him a valuable resource for his clients and friends. His down to earth explanations will help new composers look more clearly and deeply at their process.

Matt will give a brief presentation on composing for the singer / songwriter and then will open up the session to critiques of songs. Bring your unfinished or just finished songs with questions and enough lyric sheets to pass around for this exciting new chapter in SAW's perennial resource for songwriters, The Songwriter's Toolbox.

The Surge is located at 1988 Kirby Rd., McLean, VA 22101 near the intersection of Kirby and Westmoreland in McLean. You can find us in one of the large classrooms down the hall on the left. There’s a yoga class going on in the main congregation room so please be respectful of those folks.

SAW and the Songwriter’s Toolbox are unaffiliated with Surge or any religious group. The ambiance is secular, and the room is designed for performance.

Songwriters' Association of Washington is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
