Sound, Sense and Songwriting with rob Hinkal of ilyAIMY.
Rob Hinkal thought he knew where he was going as he worked his way through Baltimore’s Maryland Institute, College of Art but could never imagine the influence that a woman with a guitar could have halfway through his illustration degree.
Twenty years later and rob has made a career for himself as an award-winning singer/songwriter performing all over the United States, returning home to host award-winning open mics. Skirting the fringe of folk, he and his band ilyAIMY, co-fronted by Heather Aubrey Lloyd, have become a subversive “folk” choice, winning recognition at Kerrville Folk Festival, Susquehanna Music and Arts Festival, Takoma Park Folk Festival, the Eddie’s Attic Acoustic Shootout, Mountain Stage NewSong, the coveted “Most-Wanted” Status at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, and multiple Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMIEs) for “Best Contemporary Folk Group”.
Come hear rob discuss Life on the fringe of the acoustic scene, not-quite-folk, not-quite-rock, with focuses on how to survive the world of touring as an artist, making a Living and remaining marginally sane as you do it. Hear a couple of songs, ask a couple of questions, hear a couple of answers from someone who has survived biker festivals, naked hippies, touring with his wife AND his ex for a quarter million miles and STILL Loves what he does.
