Songwriter’s Toolbox, hosted by Kevin Dudley
4th Saturday of each month, 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Surge Community Church

1988 Kirby Road, Mclean, VA
(Intersection with Kirby Road & Westmoreland)

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN LOCATION, (same location as SAW Community Day earlier this month)

Come to the Songwriter’s Toolbox on the 4th Saturday morning (10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) of each month and learn more about songwriting! Attendance is FREE, although we will pass a “tip jar” around to honor our guest artist for coming. Everyone is welcome, so bring a friend.

Join us Saturday, June 28, as we welcome Grey Jacks AKA “The Grey A” to the Toolbox session. Grey is the former guitarist with Nashville based indie band “Glossary” and has just released his first solo CD “My Country.” He intertwines well-crafted lyrics with lush, sonic-scapes and delivers with a voice that can be gritty, haunting and angelic… not to be missed for sure.

For the first half of the Toolbox, Grey will discuss his approach to songwriting and anything else he feels like discussing regarding the creative process. The second half we’ll conduct a song critique for the first 6 folks in the door… so bring your instrument of choice and at least 16 lyric sheets and make sure you sign up!

See you there.

The Songwriter’s Toolbox is like a mini-workshop, which includes learning from our guest artist and then getting constructive feedback for one of your songs. If you don’t have a song to share, you can still learn a lot by listening to a variety of songs written by your fellow songwriters and the suggestions for improving that song. If you’d like to bring a song you're working on or one that's finished, bring your instrument (a piano is available at the Lab) and at least 20 lyric sheets. We encourage everyone to write down their comments on them so that later, you can see your lyric sheets annotated with lots of good suggestions.
