Songwriter’s Toolbox, hosted by Kevin Dudley
4th Saturday of each month, 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Come to the Songwriter’s Toolbox on the 4th Saturday morning (10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) of each month and learn more about songwriting! Attendance is FREE, although we will pass a “tip jar” around to honor our guest artist for coming. Everyone is welcome, so bring a friend.

August Tool Box - Join us August 23rd!

Internal and external detail ... it's a big deal

Did you know each line of your song can be categorized into two types of detail? Why is this important? This month’s Toolbox will help reveal answers to those questions. Understanding how to apply internal and external detail can be one of the quickest ways to improve your songwriting skills and put you in control of the writing process. So bring a note pad, iPad, whatever… but come prepared to write this coming Saturday morning!

The second half of the session we’ll conduct a critique session so bring a song, make sure you bring at least 20 lyric sheets and your instrument of choice. There’s a piano available in the Lab for those who are so inclined.

See you there.

The Songwriter’s Toolbox is like a mini-workshop, which includes learning from our guest artist and then getting constructive feedback for one of your songs. If you don’t have a song to share, you can still learn a lot by listening to a variety of songs written by your fellow songwriters and the suggestions for improving that song. If you’d like to bring a song you're working on or one that's finished, bring your instrument (a piano is available at the Lab) and at least 20 lyric sheets. We encourage everyone to write down their comments on them so that later, you can see your lyric sheets annotated with lots of good suggestions.

Location

The Lab at Convergence is an older red brick building facing Crestwood. The address is 1819 N. Quaker Lane, although 1781 Crestwood Drive pinpoints it in Google Maps.
Directions: Take the Shirlington exit off of I-395 and follow the signs to Quaker Lane. After one stop light, make a left onto Crestwood Drive. The Lab at Convergence is the first building on the left, and there’s a small parking lot to the side, as well as ample street parking. There's also additional parking in the front of the church across the street. All parking is FREE!
