  • 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM
  • 1988 Kirby Rd, McLean, VA 22101
Songwriter’s Toolbox: 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Surge, located at 1988 Kirby Rd., McLean, VA, 22101, hosted by David Morris in November.

David Morris is an award-winning songwriter with multiple cuts in the bluegrass, folk and Americana genres. He and his co-writers won the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at Merlefest in 2015 and were second in 2016. They also have second and third-place finishes in the Hazel Dickens Songwriting Contest and have had four songs selected for the International Bluegrass Music Association's Songwriter Showcase. One of his songs, "Weeds," reached number one on the Bluegrass Today chart and spent seven weeks in the Top 20. His songs have been recorded by Valerie Smith, Adkins and Loudermilk, the Dave Adkins Band, Circa Blue, the Kevin Prater Band and others.

Songwriters' Toolbox on Nov 26:

Sing Me A Story. Dave demonstrates how the use of images in your lyrics can lift your songs to a new level. He'll lead a hands-on exercise, offer plenty of examples, and allow plenty of time for song sharing. Come hear why Steve Harris of Circa Blue calls Dave part of "the A-team of songwriting."

The Surge is located at 1988 Kirby Rd., McLean, VA 22101 near the intersection of Kirby and Westmoreland in McLean. You can find us in one of the large classrooms down the hall on the left. There’s a yoga class going on in the main congregation room so please be respectful of those folks.

SAW and the Songwriter’s Toolbox are unaffiliated with Surge or any religious group. The ambiance is secular, and the room is designed for performance.

Songwriters' Association of Washington is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
