- The 17th Annual
Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (MASC) is open to any
songwriter except the judges, Songwriters
Association of Washington (SAW) board of
directors, last three former MASC Grand Prize
Winners, and the contest director. For the
purpose of this contest a songwriter is defined
as one who has not been employed as a staff
writer for a publishing company or being paid for
such services, and/or receiving more than $5,000
from royalties income within the past year.
- You may enter as
many songs as you wish in each category. You may
enter the same song in more than one category.
- Each entry must
include a separate entry form, (make additional
photocopies as necessary), one cassette with one
song on it, three (3) copies of the lyric sheet
and the entry fee. Any entry not meeting these
requirements will be automatically disqualified.
- A song can only
win first place in one category. If a song wins
first place in any one category, it becomes
ineligible for first place in the other
categories.
- Each entry must
be wholly original and shall not infringe on any
copyrights or any other rights of any third
party. Each entrant shall by entering, indemnify
SAW and hold it harmless from and against claims
inconsistent with these requirements.
- No composition
or lyric may be entered that has been: (1)
licensed or (2) placed under contract for
commercial sale with any major label, publisher
or other entity.
- SAW assumes no
responsibility for loss or damage to any entry
prior to its receipt.
- The decision of
the judges will be final and binding upon the
sponsors and all entrants. Entries that do not
comply with the rules will be disqualified.
- Entries will not
be returned.
- Each entrant
agrees that in the event he or she is the winner
of a prize in this competition, the sponsors and
SAW will have the right to publicize and print
his or her name(s) and likeness, the fact that he
or she won a prize, the song and all maters
incidental thereto.
- Entrants will
retain all publishing rights and copyrights of
their songs. However, all entrants agree that
should their song(s) be selected as winners, SAW
may use those songs within its commercially
released Winners CD. The first and second
prize winners in each category agree to furnish,
within two weeks after notification, a suitable
high quality master tape for use in producing the
Winners CD. Should the winner not be able
to meet this requirement, SAW has the right to
disqualify the winner and select another, or omit
the winning song from the Winners CD.
Because of time restraints, SAW has the right to
shorten any winning song for inclusion on the
Winners CD.
- All prizes must
be used within one calendar year of notification.
The entrant agrees to be bound by the contest
entry procedures and rules and regulations as
established in this entry form.
- All federal,
local and state taxes on prizes are the sole
responsibility of the winner. Prizes are
nontransferable and may not be redeemed for cash.
- The Grand Prize
will be determined by a panel of representatives
from record labels, publishers and performing
rights organizations specifically selected for
the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Winners will be
notified by phone or registered letter.
