One of the ways that I direct my creative energies is to write songs that address the fight to end human trafficking and homelessness. It is my desire to organize musical concerts to raise funds to support local non profit groups such as Just Ask Prevention and NOVA HTI as well as Operation Underground Railroad and The Exodus Road.

I am also interested in repairing old musical instruments (guitars, ukuleles, etc.), to give to victims so that they may have a musical outlet for healing. I like to co-write and would welcome other SAW members in organizing a concert to benefit these groups.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 1, 2019) - There are real iron men and women out there and Mark Henes is one of them. He is touring to promote his upcoming studio album release Crystallized Reflections. His newest single “Strip Me Down” will be released in the late summer of 2019. He has shows in the United States coming up; get tickets here: www.markhenes.com

He will donate 10% of his earnings from this tour to the Iron Disorders Institute (www.irondisorders.org). This is a national non-profit organization dedicated to informing the public about iron disorders like hereditary hemochromatosis or iron overload.

Giving blood can allow the body to move iron from organs that may not only save a life, but reduce the risk of other illnesses. Iron overload is a metabolic disorder that causes the body to store too much iron in the organs; specifically heart, liver and joints. This can cause diabetes, arthritis, heart failure, and other illnesses to occur prematurely.

Please get in touch with Marilyn at contact@celebrationrecords.llc for interviews or promo materials and photos.

Nashville, TN: Music City is a city built on the hard work of classic artists. Before the age of YouTube and Auto-Tune, entertainers had to possess a serious level of talent to win the admiration of a devoted audience. It was a rite of passage for an artist to prove themselves with grit, charm, or some unique quality that made them endearing to masses.

And while Nashville is at no shortage of talent, there are a shortage of artists doing the music that made legends like Sam Cooke, Emmylou Harris, or Bob Dylan.

Enter Mark Henes - the Celebration Records, LLC signed artist whose debut EP Transitions hits the digital ether on June 15, 2018. Fancying himself as “a man who loves a challenge,” Henes is challenging himself with his sophomore musical effort channelling the era of “songs first, showmanship second.”

“For me,” says Henes, “I think of the notion that’s floated around for the last 15 years that we have more ways of reaching people, but we’re also losing the ability to reach people. I hear a band like Greta Van Fleet - an obvious homage - and I hear a certain amount of creativity and boldness to someone who wants to turn the metaphorical clock back. The artists that I party and play with aren’t really interested in the fake noise that’s trying to take over local music. They’re interested in music with sustenance, like J.P. Clardy and Stan Lassiter Majical History. These are the sounds most missed in the Nashville culture.”

Celebration Records LLC is releasing digitally Mark Henes’ debut EP Transitions, on June 15, 2018. “These are the sounds most missed in the Nashville culture”, says Mark Henes.

The song “Blues” takes you back to a shuffle that you would find in countless songs in the past, but with a twist, such as you would experience if you were standing in front of Chuck Berry in 1958 for the first time listening to “Johnny Be Good”. Reminiscent of Marty McFly, when he says, in Back To The Future, “I guess you guys are not ready for that yet, but your kids are gonna love it.” Yet it is as modern as Jack Johnson with his song “Symbol In My Driveway”, which was released in 2003.

“Blues II” was heavily influenced from Hank Williams Sr. and Jr., paying tribute to the traditional 12 bar blues that is heard in songs, such as “Lost Highway” or “Family Tradition”. As he traveled from the 1940’s onward through blues, rock and country, he discovered the influence of the song “Little Sister”, recorded in 1961 by Elvis Presley.

Having felt like he paid his dues toward the blues, while performing in venues around Nashville, TN, while celebrating a healthy fellowship with fans, friends, family and the band, “Lift Your Cup” was written. “It is the Jam Band song of my tunes, so far, calling on the show and performing for people”, says Mark.

“Traveling” is the only track not written in 2018. Sometimes you only want to feel the funk and the groove with the music. Stan Lassiter, renowned Nashville guitarist, told Mark, “I really like that song. It shows that your dynamic with your guitar composition.”

“Vagabond” is about a Romanian gypsy named Lucky that he met, while living off Ellington Parkway in East Nashville. After having a conversation with him, as he stood in a poncho in the pouring rain, with a smile bigger than most people not in the rain, he proceeded to give him all the change in the console of his car and had the epiphany that no matter what level of society you may reside, you can still “consider yourself Lucky from time to time.” This is a very folksy, singer / songwriter style of social commentary and Americana.

Coming from a military family he was globally influenced, while still having lived in Nashville, TN all his life.

“Mark Henes and The Strippers have a spirit that penetrates into the soul that leaves a feeling of presence and awareness!” - Stan Lassiter

“Mark Henes has an authentic voice as an artist and songwriter as heard on the Transitions EP. There is a real drive to capture the spirit of the songs. The live show with The Strippers is an electrifying time too.” - J.P. Clardy

"The sound of a Mark Henes tune is a mix of the blues and classic rock. You can expect catchy guitar riffs on the daily from Henes." - Lexi Peto

Hi, this is Joel Pomerantz, a 61 YO old male SAW member who will be attending the NERFA  (Northeast Regional Folk Alliance at www.nerfa.org) conference on Thursday afternoon, November 8, 2018 through Sunday afternoon November 11th, 2018 in Stamford,CT. Take a look at the website and you will see who  is on the  main stage. The price of attending the conference goes significantly up  after August 15th

    A. First (and  most critically), am seeking at least one roommate for ALL three nights (the  cost for each  person  in the room goes way down with the  first person to add themselves to my room, and less so with each additional person up  to a maximum of four in the room) which are Thursday  night the 8th, Friday the 9th,  Saturday the  10th. Due to medical reasons, cannot share a bed. Will be in the room only to shower, brush teeth twice a day, and shave in the morning. The entire point of NERFA is not to sleep and bedtime is often after 330 AM and rising not later than 9 AM. It is in a nonperforming area, but NERFA is a "three ring circus" for the duration of the conference and does not stop until Sunday  morning. PLEASE email me at pomeranj-at-hotmail-dot-com, as soon as possible.

    B.  Am, also, less critically, seeking a ride to the conference to arrive not later than 3 PM on the Thursday afternoon and a ride back that can start after the Farewell luncheon ends at about 2 or 230 PM on Sunday afternoon. This is less critical, as trains and buses run to and from Stamford to DC, but the scheduling of these, for the return trip, is liable to leave me stranded at DC Union Station and not in my own bed, as the Metro shuts down at 11 PM on Sunday nights and does not resume until 5 AM on Monday mornings (Monday the 12th is also the official Veteran's Day  Holiday and so the schedule may be different for the Metro starting time) Again, please contact me at pomeranj-at-hotmail-dot-com.
